VIDEO of Chichen Itza, Valladolid and open-air Cenote, Mexico. The video shows Highlights of my amazing trip to Chichen Itza Mayan ruins, the pretty colonial town of Valladolid and swimming and cliff jumping in an open-air Cenote! The water was crystal clear.

My top tips are….

Get up early

If you want to beat the crowds and the traffic, you need to be on the road between 7-8am.

Remember sun block and bug spray

The inland areas of Mexico are much hotter than the coast and bugs are slightly more prevalent. I would take a hat and plenty of sun block.

Remember your towel and a change of clothes

Unless you want to sit on a soggy seat the whole way home, remember to bring dry clothes for after the swimming.

Leave valuables at home

There were no lockers at the open-air cenote near to Chichen Itza, so I would leave valuables at home. I felt perfectly safe leaving my belongings at the side of the water but it doesn’t hurt to take care.

Barter for your tour

If you take a tour to see the ruins don’t be afraid to haggle! If you’re staying on one of the all-inclusive resorts, the price of the tour will be higher than with a local company. Ditch the hotel tour and go local! I’d recommend Lighthouse Tours. Speak to Tomas in Puerto Morelos.
